I'll still be checking in at my usual communities, but I have found I really don't like to post at my actual journal much. I'll still be around though!

I graduate high school in a month and a half. This would be marginally more exciting if I didn't have so much school-related stuff to worry about. AP Literature is a freaking bitch. AP Tests. Finals are coming. And who thought a Senior Project would be a good idea?

So, in lieu of homework, I started watching The Vampire Diaries. AND I LOVE IT. I'm up to 2x07 after marathoning it all weekend. I love Caroline. I love the suspense. I love that I don't hate any characters (that was my main concern). And I just love the fact that it doesn't suck, basically.

I've been so negligent to this journal simply because I doubted anyone cared, but then I realized that I did. I want to make this journal for me--not for anyone else. So, expect movie reviews, tv reviews, book reviews, etc. because I want to write them.

Also, speaking about movies, I saw Source Code today. Pretty awesome, although everyone around me was complaining that it was just a wannabe-Inception. I can sort of see it, in the movie-gives-me-a-headache-stop-making-me-think way, but I think people should give it a chance, and judge it on its own merits. Plus, I just liked it, okay?

Yeah, I know. It's been a long time. And a lot of stuff has happened (not really, but I'm going to pretend).

+First off, I just finished school. Which is a relief, to say the least. Next year I'm signed up for three AP classes (wtf, self?), not to mention all the regular stuff that goes a long with being a senior. So I plan on completely relaxing this summer and reflecting on my life  enjoying being seventeen.

+ Shows I am watching this summer: Pretty Little Liars, Persons Unknown, American Pickers (best reality show ever), and I think Huge, but I've only seen one episode. Oh, and that new reality show on MTV. Yeah, I know. IF YOU WATCH ANY OF THESE SHOWS, LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK.

+ Heather Morris is a goddess. Also, Naya. And Dianna. And Lea. I LOVE THE ACTRESSES OF GLEE. Even though I've had some problems with the back nine episodes (along with everyone else in fandom, seriously STOP WITH THE GUEST STARS), I still love it. It makes me smile and wish I could sing. Plus, when Glee is at its best it is amazing. Just one thought for next season: more focus and development of the FRIENDSHIPS, and less about the couples other than Santana/Brittany . There is so many great storylines they could take with these characters. Oh, and let Brittany sing please.

+ I sorta stopped shipping Demi/Selena, only not really? It's just so hard now that they aren't friends anymore, but I still will always have a soft spot in my heart for them.

+ The Runaways was a good movie. I felt awkward at first because Dakota Fanning is still a youngin' in my mind--even though she's only a couple years younger than me--but once I let that go, I really enjoyed it. Kristen Stewart was great, and so was Dakota. They really brought a lot to their roles.

So, yeah. Not that much is going on. I've just been reading a lot and trying to catch up on some movies and tv shows that have been recced to me recently. My summer job starts up in a week or two, and I have a bunch of summer homework, but I'm pushing it all off until the last minute. Just like last year.

We must be soulmates
I've always enjoyed writing. Plotting events, thoughts, and writing dialogue to the best of my ability. It's never come that naturally to me, however, and my true passion lies in reading. I love to read everything from non-fiction to fiction to fanfiction. Each offers its own loveable traits in my opinion, with fanfiction's being an already invested love for the characters. Which can both be a help and be a hindrance to fandom writers. That's why my favorite fanfiction is the kind that keeps the voice of the characters, and I can believe what is being told to me. This ability makes the story feel real. Of course, sometimes I enjoy my plotty fics, and the occasional alternate universe fic. They can be fresh and creative, and breathe life into a world of repetitive stories that have the exact same storyline. So, with that, I present to you a rec list of some of my favorite fanfiction of 2009. These stories include stories written this year, fics that were written prior to 2009 but I discovered this year, or favorites that I have re-read as of late. Enjoy!

Disney RPF

This will be the biggest list of recs because I read the most from this fandom this year, and have found quite a few gems along the way. This section is going to be focused on Demi/Selena, my biggest ship of 2009. Until I came across these two, I had never shipped any real people. This was a huge change for me in terms of fanfiction. I will not read some of the stories written about these two girls if I feel it is 'out of character'. Some things these two would just not do or say, and I cringe when I come across obvious sloppy written dialogue and unrealistic plots (ok, I'm not really one to talk since I wrote that fic about Selena losing her memory and all, but let's forget about that for a moment...). That's why I'm glad these stories that are amazing:

Calamine by takemeback  For being such a huge event in Demi/Selena fandom, not may writers take on what happened the night of the 2008 Teen Choice Awards (the one where they are all over each other in every. single picture.). This fic does touch on the subject in a poetic and breathtaking way. I love to re-read it, and it is a must read for all Demi/Selena fans (not only because its written by the mod and creator of the demi_selena comm).

Favorite Line:  The anxiety was killing her, her heart was racing, her skin was hot, and then—and then—Demi's hand would slip across her back to Selena's shoulder, and it was like calamine lotion: soothing, cool, relief.

Snapshots by initiatesix This fic contains four small interconnected moments between Demi and Selena. The whole section set when they're fourteen is so, so them, its not even funny. Repetition was an amazing tool utilized here, and I wish there were more fics around like this one.

Favorite Line: Selena's late that morning, and when her hair dresser asks what kind of hurricane she had to walk through to get her hair so tangled up, she just grins and runs a finger over her lips.

Come Close, Listen to the Story by coffeecommunity This is my favorite (non-AU) multichapter Demi/Selena fic. All I can say is introspection. Being able to delve so deeply into someones inner thoughts and desires is a gift; a gift that this author undeniably possesses. And, yes, the author excels at dialogue as well, despite what she may say.

Favorite Line: Alot, but this one specifically: “Can I...you mind if I...” she trails off, unable to find the words. Her arms slide around your waist and gently pull you closer, while one of your hands lands on her hip and the other one behind her neck. Her lips barely graze your ear as she asks, “Is this okay?” Now you understand. You shiver and nod.

5 times Demi Lovato ran away from home and 1 time she didn't by by perfectlystill So much love for this fic. To my knowledge, there aren't any other 5 times fics written about Demi and Selena, which is sad because it's one of my favorite styles of fics to read. What I love specifically about this fic is that it covers all the we know about Selena and Demi (Barney auditions, homeschooling, living together, etc.) but takes all of it a step further and really delves into what could have happened in all of those situations.

Favorite Line: And she loved the way Selena hugged her tightly, pressing their bodies together so they were almost one person. It felt that way sometimes, like they were Demi and Selena, Selena and Demi, you couldn’t have one without the other.

Disentanglement by cherryroad/summerstorm  This was a filled prompt over at tweendom_anon that could have been written so, so badly, but because this author wrote it, it wound up being amazing. But don't trust me, go read it for yourself. It's brilliant.

Favorite Line: And one day, after much fretting and freaking out and feeling horrible for ogling your best friend's ass while she's changing into her pajamas in your bedroom, you work up the nerve to walk up to her and, like, hold her hair. In a particularly soft way that you hope might indicate it's contemplative of other things rather than, like, hey, let me untangle that knot.

i would add up what you mean to me, but and Let's Make A Scene (Like Movies In Our Dreams) by pirateygoodness These are both part of the epic DC High Universe created by pirateygoodness. I think sometimes it's easy to forget that Demi and Selena are teenagers, especially Selena and how she carries herself in the public eye. These fics take them out of Hollywood and into High School, so we actually get to see them being teenagers. Something completely different from every other Demi and Selena fic. A great AU with great writing.

Favorite Line: Tough one. I have a bunch. But, let's go with: “Stop it,” Demi says to her reflection, and she looks like she’s about to cry. There’s this terrible, hurt part of Selena that suddenly wishes she would. Her chest gets tight, and she starts to draw little circles on Demi’s back with her thumb. Demi breathes out, hard, but she doesn’t stop her.

Coping With Clarityby letscall_l This fic deserves every single bit of praise it receives. You know how one fic defines a fandom? How there's always one fic everyone in that fandom has read and re-read? That one fic that is always getting rec'd, because it's just that good? This is that fic for Demi and Selena.

Favorite Line: Way, way too many. Trust me. I'm going to give mine from the first chapter: Her essay is open but nothing is making sense except the lingering strum of a song Selena doesn’t have a name for.

the hard way by frychicken Great, great writing. This fic was amazing because of the slow burning build-up between Demi and Selena. I needed to know what was going to happen next at the end of every chapter. I was not disappointed.

Favorite Line: They know: distance, time? It happens. Even without the securely constructed contracts, inevitability plays its card and they always find their way back to each other. The only true enemy they have is their own impatience.

Domestic Rites written for yuletide, author unknown as of now. I love this fic to pieces. There's a whole scene about a cross-stitch that was brilliant and hilarious. Plus, I loved the way the author portrayed Taylor, Selena, and especially Demi. The author was able to make Demi awkward and clumsy but still charming and studly, a lot how I can see Demi being in real-life. It's just a great and funny fic.

Favorite Line: Demi, the note reads. Congratulations on your new apartment! I thought I'd surprise you with this. Your grandma made it for your father and I. Call me in the morning. Love, Mom. She passes the note to Selena, who says, "Shit."

hit the music, here we go written for yuletide, author unknown as of now. This is the only non-Demi/Selena story in the Disney RPF section. It's Chelsea Staub/Nicole Anderson, and I hadn't even known I wanted this fic until I saw it. It's just beautiful. It made me fall in love with Nicole. It made me fall in love with Chelsea. It made me like the Jonas Brothers. Amazing.

Favorite Line: Padding barefoot into the kitchen, Chelsea murmurs a hello and walks directly into her personal space. Chelsea's hair is a mess and there are circles under her eyes, yet she looks luminous, stunning. Nicole feels hideous, wishes she could have brushed her teeth.

Glee

While being one of my favorite shows since it premiered last May, I had trouble getting into Glee fandom. I didn't particularly care for shipping Puck or Finn with anyone. Kurt's storyline isn't something I'm that interested in. Mercedes hasn't even been given enough material for me to know if I like her yet. I love both Will/Emma and Artie/Tina, but have never felt the urge to read fanfiction for either of them. Rachel/Quinn are okay (I prefer Dianna/Lea), but I kinda would love to see them as enemies turned BFF's instead of them having a steamy affair (although, that's okay as well). BUT THEN, Sectionals happened, and Brittany/Santana turned CANON, and I fell in love.

I Forgot To Say Out Loud (How Beautiful You Really Are) by random_flores This is my favorite Glee fic. The writing is superb and hilarious, and so completely Santana. It shows what happened after Brittany spilled the beans about her and Santana's relationship, and how Santana reacts. I love the Brittany in this fic to pieces, and the scene at the locker is so heartbreakingly beautiful

Favorite Line: Even with show choir, Santana's life chessboard is still perfectly poised for a checkmate. Her only misstep is Brittany.

Easy as written for yuletide, author unknown as of now.  Again characterization plays a huge role in why I love this fic. I can literally hear Santana's voice in this fic. It sheds a little insight on Santana and Brittany, and how possibly their whole 'relationship' could have started.

Favorite Line: Chastity is overrated as far as Santana's concerned. She quit being a virgin the first time she had sex.

Wonderwall by anomalousalanna The best Quinn/Rachel story and one of the best Glee fics in general. This fic actually inspired my writing style for a couple of my fics, in the sense of the vignettes. I love everything about it. I'm also sure that pretty much everyone has read it, but I love it too much to not mention it.

Favorite Line: “Dear diary, a few weeks ago I found out that a three and a half ounce baby girl was the reason for my backaches and swollen ankles. Also Rachel kissed me. It was a surprise to say the least.” She slides her eyes to the left to see Rachel in the same position she was in. “But, I hope she does it again.”

The Big Bang Theory

I guess this could be seen as my most heterosexual fandom. Yet, my couple for this show is the most unconventional (even though it's the most popular). I love Sheldon and Penny. In both the platonic and potential romantic way. There's no denying that their interactions on the show aren't amazing and hilarious, and while I love Raj to pieces, they are both my favorite characters. The Adhesive Duck Deficiency was my favorite episode of television in a long time and made my heart happy. I'm not big into reading that much fic from this fandom, but I've really enjoyed the little I have read. I'd probably be into some genfic, so if anyone has read any great genfic, please, please rec it to me in comments.

The Cheap Trick Acceleration written for yuletide, author unknown as of now. I love this fic to pieces, and I can't wait to find out who wrote it, so I can devour their other creations. Penny is visited by a time traveling Sheldon, and it. is. perfect. Sheldon is Sheldon. Penny is Penny. And it's hilarious.

Favorite Line: "Wait a minute. Why would you think I was--" Penny narrows her eyes. "Are you saying that you think the only reason you'd save me over the others is because in a post-apocalyptic world you might get to bone me?"

some credit now, where credit is due by cereal  Apparently, cereal is the Penny and Sheldon fanfic god, so I'm going to need to check out more from this author in the future. This fic was a response to one of the best episodes of the show this season, and I loved it. It was my first time reading Penny/Sheldon fanfiction, and I fell in love. Great writing and a great portrayal of these two characters.

Favorite Line: The short list for why Penny breaks up with Leonard looks like this: Sheldon.

Harry Potter

Once again, this is a fandom where I leaned more to the unconventional couple of the series, Harry and Hermione. I always believed they had the deepest relationship in the books, and I really wish they could have been something more. J.K. Rowling was great in regards to plot and action, but (in my opinion) wasn't that great at writing romance. And I realize that romance was never supposed to be a huge part of the series, but it became a huge part of the fandom anyways. I haven't read as much as I wanted from this fandom this year, but here were two fics I absolutely fell in love with.

All Road Lead To by winterwaltz The summary for this fic is 'The Four Times Hermione Granger Does Not Kiss Harry Potter, and the One Time She Does', which is the first reason I love this fic. I love fics that use the '(insert number here) times' device. It creates so many opportunities for juxtaposition. This fic is angsty and powerful, the perfect combination for a fic in regards to these two characters, and I love how it flows and delves into their relationship so well.

Favorite Line: She stares back at him, unblinking and silent, seeing only Harry - not the boy who was neglected and unloved for the first decade of his life, not the wary teenager she knew [from textbooks] before ever stepping onto the Hogwarts Express, not the tormented adolescent who believed in a prophecy so deeply that he would have sacrificed himself to save the world.

There Hasn’t Been a Time That I Have Wished I Wasn’t Here With You by anythingbutgrey Powerful. Heartbreaking. Angsty. The words in this fic feel more like lyrics; they flow and are poetic in a way the best songs can be. Alright, I'll be back. I have to go re-read it.

Favorite Line: The hero gets the girl, but the girl doesn’t always get the hero. It’s like what they used to tell us in grade school maths, a square is a rectangle, but a rectangle is not a square. You’ll get whatever you want and I’ll just get what I deserve.

- First, I want to say a huge thank you to everyone over at demi_selena for my two awards. I love everyone in that community, and it really is one of the nicest and welcoming places on lj. Plus, I love that I'm considered likely to be Selena because I love that girl.

- Secondly, I hope everyone has a great Christmas/Hanukkah/insert your holiday here. For my family, we have always celebrated Christmas on the 24th, not the 25th. So tomorrow will be a busy day, to say the least. My mother is hosting a dinner party for fifteen, therefore, I know she is going to be stressed out and pissed off all morning. Wish me luck.

- Lastly, I'm spending my winter break watching some British television. This includes Spaced, Misfits, and Off The Hook. If you've watched either of these three, you should leave me a comment telling me if you liked it or not.

Title: I wanna be the one (to put it in a song)
Pairing: Santana/Brittany
Rating: light R; nothing too graphic
Word Count: 560
Summary: Regular friends don't text each other with the message, What are you wearing? or spend hours making out to perfect kissing techniques.
Disclaimer: I do not own the characters from Glee, and I (sadly) never will.
Author's Note: This really came out of nowhere, just something spurred on by my procrastinating tendencies and lack of interest in my AP US History homework. The title is a lyric by the indie band fun. who are amazing and worth checking out. Tell me if you like it.

- Homework. I am trying very hard to avoid it by lurking around lj. My AP classes have got me going crazy right now, but winter break is quickly approaching meaning I'll actually be able to relax soon. Very much looking forward to this development.

- Glee is on tonight. The only good thing about Wednesday. Is anyone not watching this show?

- I am so excited to see Blake Lively on snl this Saturday. I'm more excited to see if she can out gay Taylor Swift's roomate sketch.

Also, I stole this meme from fandom_memes

1. Write down the names of 10 characters.
2. Write a fic of fifteen words or less for every prompt, using the characters determined by the numbers. Do NOT read the prompts before you do step 1.
